Amazon to Open a Central London Office in Old Street
Amazon – the online book sales pioneer– has committed to open a Shoreditch Business Centre.
The e-retail giant will lease 47,000 sq ft of Old Street office space, within 8-storey office building.
Within the UK, Amazon has its operational head office in Slough, Berkshire. This is supported by a network of distribution centres in Doncaster, Dunfermline, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea. The move to a central London office is major vote in confidence for the burgeoning East London TechCity region.
Paula Byrne, MD at the new business centre explained that: “London is a hotbed of tech talent and testament to that fact is Amazon choosing the capital as the location for the new global Digital Media Development Centre,”
Amazon’s new Hoxton offices are ideally placed for networking among the technology start-ups that have clustered around the Silicon Roundabout and specialist investors of the City of London.
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London said: “For this wildly successful and dynamic company to choose our city to site such an important facility is a splendid feather in our cap… Amazon’s investment propels us well up the league table of global tech cities.”
