Mercer, a world leading provider of corporate outsourcing and human resource consulting, has signed up for the new office space in Edinburgh. Mercer has committed to an eleven year sub-lease and will relocate from its current Edinburgh office rental on Hanover Street in November.
Quartermile One (Q1) will provide Mercer with 10,311 sq ft of new Grade A open plan office space at a rent of £26 per sq ft. The prestigious Quartermile development covers 19 acres and is on the site of the former Edinburgh Infirmary.
Originally considered to be an off-piste location for executive offices to rent, the Q1 commercial space on Lauriston Place, EH3 has created a new prime property district within the Edinburgh office market. The EH3 office rental offers high quality contemporary, Grade A office space, providing bright open plan workspaces amongst the historic buildings of the Scottish capital city.
Gladedale property group commissioned Foster + Partners architects to design the mixed-use development and at the Q1 building they produced a 100,000 sq ft of offices spread over 7-storeys, which offer panoramic views of Edinburgh Castle.
The bold and successful scheme has already garnered awards from the British Council for Offices (BCO) and in 2008 was voted the Best Commercial Workspace in Scotland. Since completion, Q1 has become a popular address for firms of solicitors including Morton Fraser and Murray Spens who are occupy leasehold office space. This impressive tenant base provides an excellent rental income for the freeholder Aviva Investors.
Mercer currently has over 100 Edinburgh staff working as actuaries, pension scheme administrators, investment consultants and financial risk strategists. Within these specialist financial fields, the firm is widely recognised to be among the largest employers in Scotland as they also have 200 employees operating across two further Scottish offices in Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Mercer operates right across the UK from offices in Bristol to Belfast. In total the consultancy has 15 offices in the UK and shares its Tower Hill headquarter offices in the City of London with sister company Marsh Insurance brokers.
