So here it is, 40 days of depriving yourself. You've gorged on pancakes with extra sugar and Nutella and now it's time to pay the piper.
Most people will give up something they love for lent. A lot of people will give up chocolate (the horror), alcohol or generally enjoying themselves. We here at Free Office Finder think that maybe it's time to give up something that isn't making you or anyone around you happy. To make our tips more exciting, we've made them all about office culture!
So here we go, the office habits we'd like to see everyone kick to the curb for at least 40 days and 40 nights.
1. Smelly Food
We know it's tempting to grab that greasy kebab from across the road and drag yourself back to your desk to chow down on it. But yet, for the sake of your co-workers (and your health) please don't.
If you want that kebab or that boiled egg salad then try going outside and eating it. Walking around and getting more exercise or even just sitting anywhere but your desk is a much healthier way to spend your lunch.
It's tempting, especially after you saw Janelle take a little bit too much time on her lunch with Dave. But who cares about Janelle and Dave? We do, but you shouldn't.
Office gossiping can break down team morale and cause major problems for your career. No one likes a gossiper, not even gossipers like gossipers much and you didn't hear that from us.
3. Foot tapping, singing and humming
There's only so much polite ignoring that we can manage. Yes, we know that Adele speaks to you on a level no one else will but let’s leave the musical stylings to her for now. We all like the occasional hum or foot-tap but let's not over-do it, no one is looking for a one man show to complement their pile of desk work.
We could all use a day off, in fact we could all use a year off. Give yourself a break and don't come in to work when you’re sick. As well as being detrimental to your overall heath, you could risk getting your beloved co-workers sick as well! To be frank, we find it disturbing to know that your germy hands have been all over the place.
The consistent coughing and nose blowing can grate on you during an 8 hour work day. So do yourself a favour, accept that your body needs a break and snuggle up in bed with some tissues, your cat and watch Sex and the City.
It's great to talk to co-workers and we encourage chit-chat about our lives outside work. It makes the day go a bit faster and it helps you get to know your co-workers. However, no one wants to hear about your marital problems or the fact that you just got a great deal on a house in Chelsea. If you’re thinking of sharing something with your co-workers, just take a moment to think... is this information appropriate? If you have to ask that question in the first place, it more than likely isn't.
So there we go, our ideas for giving up annoying habits for lent. 40 days and 40 nights of not annoying our co-workers? How boring... but we'll give it a good try.
