Exemplar Properties and The City of London Corporation signed the agreement which will see the development of an estimated 200,000 sq ft of shops and office space in London.
Bennetts Associates Architects have been assigned to work on the project. The company have previously worked on the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, London EC1, Premier Place and the Potterrow Development in Edinburgh.
According to Property Week, Daniel Van Gelder, director at Exemplar, said “The London Fruit and Wool Exchange site is one of the final pieces in the regeneration of Spitalfields. We are delighted to have signed the development agreement and have appointed Bennetts Associates Architects to create proposals that will be attractive to businesses and independent retailers.”
The building was built in 1929 and was designed by Architects Sidney Perks. A planning application is due to be submitted early next year.
