The first phase of the ‘Soapworks’ project will see the former Colgate Palmolive factory at Salford Quays transformed into a four storey office complex totalling 25,000 sq ft.
The Carlyle Group has appointed Bowmer & Kirkland to carry out the first phase of the Salford office project.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Mark Harris, a director of the Carlyle Group, said “There has been strong interest and we are in the process of talking to a number of prospective tenants across the number of sectors, who are attached to the architectural qualities of the building, its location and the fact that we are able to offer rents of around half of those of central Manchester.”
Soapworks will also feature shops, restaurants, a gym and a hotel and around 2,000 jobs are expected to be created. The project is due for completion in June 2011 and altogether around 350,000 sq ft of office space in Salford Quays will be created.
Salford Quays is also home to MediaCityUK which is Europe’s first purpose built creative and media development. In 2011 the BBC will relocate from their offices in London to the offices in Salford. Around 15,000 jobs are expected to be created once MediaCityUK is complete.
