About Fleet Street

Located in the City of London, Fleet Street is host to a wide range of businesses, housed in premium office space. Fleet Street has been associated with printing and publishing since the 16th century and by the 20th century, the majority of Britain’s national newspapers were based here. Although most of the newspaper groups have moved out of the area, many of their former office buildings are now listed and the term Fleet Street remains synonymous with the national press.

Fleet Street and its surrounding area was dominated by the national press and other related industries by the 20th century. Many of the buildings that were originally the home of newspapers remain, some of which are Grade II listed such as number 135-142 where the Daily Telegraph was based, and number 121-128 which housed the Daily Express. Many of the newspapers and publishers have since moved away from Fleet Street, but the area is still synonymous with the printing and publishing industry. There are a significant number of statues and monuments along Fleet Street, including memorials to a number of figures from the British press.

Fleet Street is now more associated with the investment banking, legal and accountancy professions with many of the old newspaper offices becoming the London headquarters for various companies.

Offices to Rent in Fleet Street

Fleet Street is a mix of converted period and listed Victorian buildings, many of which were the former headquarters for Britain’s national newspapers, and modern business centres providing a variety of office space. Bright and airy serviced and non-serviced open-plan, shared and private workspace can be found at reasonable rental costs, and within easy reach of the City.

Transport Connections

Fleet Street is near to a number of transport links, making it an excellent location for businesses looking for office space in a well-connected area. The nearest underground stations are Chancery Lane, Temple and Blackfriars, and the City Thameslink railway station is within easy reach. London bus routes along the entire length of Fleet Street serve the area well, and there is a further bus route that runs between Fetter Lane and Temple Bar.

Shopping, Restaurants and Leisure

Along Fleet Street are a variety of specialist shops, with further outlets and independent traders a short distance away. As well as the pubs and inns along Fleet Street, there are a good selection of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby for office workers to enjoy such as Chilango, Eat Café, The Watch House, El Vino Fleet Street, Zest and Le Montmartre Bakery.
