South Shields
South Shields is a coastal town at the mouth of the River Tyne, just a few miles from Newcastle. This area was once known for traditional heavy industries, including shipbuilding, until the last shipbuilder closed in the mid-1980s. Today the town is a major hub for a wide range of sectors, primarily the service industries. For air travel, Newcastle International Airport is a 40-minute drive from the area.
