Once known for its high levels of unemployment, East London is now an up and coming area of interest for many residential and business units. In the decade between 2001 and 2011, the Eastern area of Tower Hamlets was the part of London which saw the biggest population boom of anywhere in England and Wales; it grew by 30%.
