South Shields

South Shields is a coastal town at the mouth of the River Tyne, just a few miles from Newcastle. This area was once known for traditional heavy industries, including shipbuilding, until the last shipbuilder closed in the mid-1980s. Today the town is a major hub for a wide range of sectors, primarily the service industries. The main business types in South Shields are charities, recruiters and legal services, located in office space alongside hotels and retail stores.

This area of the north-east is filled with Magnesian Limestone cliffs, sand dunes and picturesque beaches, as well as a thriving urban area of pubs, restaurants and historic buildings.
