About Brick Lane

Brick Lane is a street in the East End, famous for its many curry houses. Small and medium-sized companies thrive in office space the area, benefitting from the active community.

Brick Lane became well-known due to brick and tile manufacturing which started in the 15th century. In 1680, brewing arrived in Brick Lane using water drawn from deep wells. The Truman family established the Black Eagle Brewery in the late 17th century and at the same time the Brick Lane Market was opened selling fruit and vegetables.  Industries which later joined the area included weaving, tailoring and clothing.

The site of the old Truman Brewery is now home to an office and entertainment complex, as well as the city’s best known nightclubs, 92 Feet East and The Vibe Bar. Brick Lane also has a regular display of graffiti, featuring artists such as Banksy, Ben Eine and Stik.
