Sweet Office

Free Office Finder has been appointed to market the world’s first ‘partially’ edible office space for rent, made from sweets.

Started by American entrepreneur Jake Otis for his company Faro Pilol, the offices are based within a property in Wardour Street, Soho and are targeted at Media companies who are wanting something different to wow their clients whilst providing a novel working environment for staff.

Edible items will include desks which are made of wafers (supported by a metal inner shell), plants on the desks made of marzipan, chocolate ornaments inside a bookcase, coffee tables made of liquorice and giant lollipops on each desk. Chairs themselves won’t be edible nor will the cushions shaped as giant smarties. Multi coloured wallpaper at the back of each room has a ‘marshmallow’ scent.

Two of the offices also come with a breakout area. The break out areas are also edible with small tables filled with smarties whilst giant fruit pastels are embedded into a faux wall at the back of the room. There are eight offices to let in total which can accommodate from one to six people.

At a monthly cost of £1000 per desk, Otis admits the offices aren’t cheap but says the price is fair as the rooms will need to be kept at a constant temperature of 15.6C/60F to maintain shelf life whilst staff of the building, aptly called office ‘sweet-hearts’ will replace anything ‘eaten to disfigurement’ on a fortnightly basis.

Staff and builders have been ordered not to enter the rooms alone after bites were taken out of many of the sweets during construction. The offices won’t be ready until May 2014 yet two offices have already been let off-plan.

Nick Riesel, MD of Free Office Finder, commented "We have gone from marketing office suites to office sweets which is something we need to get used to, but they are proving popular already."
