Wirral Council Planning Committee accepted the plans which will provide 422,757 square metres of office space in Liverpool.
The scheme will provide an estimated total of 15m sq ft, which will comprise 13,521 new homes, 645,000 sq ft of retail space and over 1m sq ft of leisure, community, culture and education space. An estimated 20,000 jobs will be created in the area and it will be home to around 30,000 new residents.
When complete, the development will be the largest urban regeneration project in the UK.
According to Property Week, the director of Peel, Lindsay Ashworth, said “We are absolutely delighted that Wirral Planning Committee has reached this positive decision, it is what the public wanted and what the area is crying out for. This is a historical day for the future of Wirral and the entire city region.”
Because of the scale of the project, it has been referred to the Secretary of State for final approval. If the Government approves, work will commence in the next two years.
