"England’s Silicon Valley" is the very appropriate name given to the part of the M4 corridor running through Berkshire and the Thames Valley. Global tech giants Microsoft and Oracle occupy neighbouring offices in Reading, Vodafone has its own 30 acre corporate complex in Newbury, and the visionary electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors has its UK headquarters in Maidenhead.
South East England Castle.
Tech companies are not alone in wanting to establish bases in the South East of England. Mars Limited operate a chocolate factory in Berkshire, and fast moving consumer goods manufacturers such as Colgate-Palmolive UK and Constellation Brands Europe have opted for office space in Surrey.
South East England Town
The high concentration of knowledge-based industries in the South East is the combined result of its proximity to the capital, as well as the supply of graduates from the region’s many world-leading universities. Despite being close to the capital, over 50% of graduates stay in the region after they graduate, thanks to the excellent job opportunities.
South East England Coast.
Not surprisingly, the South East of England is the second wealthiest region in the UK, second only to London. In 2013 the Office for National Statistics reported that the South East had the highest employment rate of all English regions, as well as having the second highest Gross Disposable Household Income.
Dover in South East England
It’s not all business in the South East, however. The area is blessed with some of the most breathtaking natural scenery and points of historical interest in the UK. From the iconic white cliffs of Dover, to the wild ponies of the New Forest, the area has an abundant supply of natural beauty to match the rosy economic backdrop.
